Water conservation: Vitale Vakantieparken
How can we ensure that Vitale Vakantieparken can achieve water conservation in a feasible way? Holiday parks in the Netherlands are facing the challenge of using water more sustainably. Holiday park owners need information and practical advice on how to deal with flooding, drought and drinking water conservation.
That is why Vitale Vakantieparken asked &flux to develop a brochure that provides park owners with concrete tools to tackle water challenges at their parks.
Why?
Holiday parks consume more water per person on average than households, partly due to swimming pools, green space management and the high consumption of temporary residents. At the same time, water scarcity is increasing. Vital Holiday Parks faces the challenge of using water more sustainably. Holiday park owners need information and practical advice on how to deal with flooding, drought and drinking water conservation. The question is therefore: how can holiday parks achieve water conservation in a feasible way?
Our approach
&flux ontwikkelt een praktische routekaart voor waterbesparing in vakantieparken. Dit doen we in drie stappen:
- Gathering information
We analyse existing data, hold discussions with stakeholders and identify best practices.

2. Developing a brochure and digital step-by-step plan
In this, we offer concrete measures and strategic choices for water-efficient management..

3. Project management
Efficient planning and management of this project.

Park of the Future festival
&flux was also present at the Park of the Future Festival, where entrepreneurs, policymakers and partners came together to discuss a more sustainable Veluwe. Wietse Visser from &flux shared insights into the importance of water conservation and the possibilities for achieving it. It was inspiring to see how motivated everyone was to take joint action for a more sustainable and circular future, with lower emissions, more efficient use of sustainable resources and greater biodiversity, so that nature in the Veluwe can improve.

Results
The result of this project will be a brochure informing holiday park owners about how they can deal with water challenges at their parks. The brochure offers practical information and tools on three levels:
- Area level – How a holiday park can be designed to be more water-inclusive, taking into account area characteristics.
- Building level – Concrete measures for holiday homes to promote water conservation and water-efficient applications.
- Behavioural level – Recommendations for visitors to use water more consciously.
In addition, the brochure ensures that the topics of water conservation, flooding and drought are addressed, with water conservation being elaborated on in practical terms and the other themes being included as background information. In this way, the project offers holiday park owners a clear perspective for action and contributes to the broader approach of “Not a drop wasted in the park”.
