Greenhouse horticulture Climate-neutral by 2040

That is the ambition of Greenports Nederland, and agreements have been made about it in the Climate Agreement and the Horticulture Agreement. In both agreements, it has been agreed that an area-based elaboration will be available for each greenhouse horticulture area in the Netherlands by 1 January 2021. On behalf of Greenport Nederland, we coordinated the process for the realisation of these area elaborations in &Flux over the past year. Together with the 7 Greenports, 3 provinces and 50 municipalities, we have made an inventory of 80+ greenhouse horticulture areas.

The area development simply means that agreements must be made in each greenhouse horticulture area about how we will provide sustainable CO2, heat and electricity as a replacement for natural gas in the next 20 years. &Flux is supervising this process for the 80+ greenhouse horticulture areas in the Netherlands.

On November 25, we are organising a webinar to share our initial findings with the sector. This is the first step towards building a community of all municipalities, provinces, greenports and industry representatives that are committed to making the greenhouse horticulture sector more sustainable. A community that ensures that accumulated knowledge can be shared and areas can learn from each other’s approaches.
