We participated in the Climate Classic again: cycling 40 km along the “future” coastline of the Netherlands to raise awareness about climate change and raise money for Justdiggit. A sunny day full of sports, awareness and impact!

Cycling together for a greener climate
Last Friday, we took part in the Cycling 4 Climate Classic. Together with thousands of other red and blue striped cyclists, Marianna, Mona, Olivia, Sander and Felicia cycled along the “future” coastline of the Netherlands. The aim of the tour was to raise awareness about climate change and raise money for Justdiggit, an organisation that plants trees in Africa.
The toughest participants cycled all the way from Breda to Groningen, while we opted for the 40 km inspirational tour. A piece of cake for the experienced cyclists among us, but Marianna and Felicia found it a bit nerve-wracking because they had to make do with their city bikes and canal wrecks, respectively.
Fortunately, it wasn’t as bad as they had feared. The route was beautiful, mainly through the woods and leafy residential areas. In the shade, the heat was bearable. There were stops at special locations: enthusiastic volunteers told us about the breeding skylarks at Park Vliegbasis Soesterberg, and we took a short break in the shade of the Triodos Bank’s bidirectional charging station.
After the finish, a well-deserved slice of apple pie awaited us. In total, the Climate Classic, together with the Climate Marathon, raised €169,000 for Justdiggit. A wonderful result! It was a lovely day, thanks to Olivia and Marianna for the excellent organisation. We will definitely participate again next year, and who knows, maybe even 100 km?
