At last! Seeing the climate forest again through the trees!

Climate-adaptive construction has – certainly as a theme – expanded enormously in recent years. A wide range of regional frontrunner initiatives have enthusiastically started working with area partners. Policy rules, products and tools have been developed, and that has led to an excellent mix of examples and tools!

However, we also see that there is a need for coordination. After all, which instrument or example applies in our particular situation and, more importantly, do we now know everything we need to know?

Climate-adaptive construction always requires area-specific customisation. Added to that, strong and intensive collaborations between parties in the chain have often served as the basis for the manufacture of these products and aids. These collaborations are very often being organised locally or regionally. And despite the fact that the target groups for these products and aids are very diverse, they always affect parties throughout the construction chain: (local) government organisations, developers, builders, financiers and other stakeholders.

Nationally and regionally, there is now a broader demand for the exchange of knowledge about the available instruments and tools for further cooperation in this public-private domain. This is giving rise to questions such as: Are all these instruments compatible? Do we have the right knowledge? Is the method unambiguous and clear? Can the approach from highly urban regions also be used at a national level?

By ‘Zipping’ the products and tools for climate-adaptive area development, we want to conduct this analysis and make it available to policy-makers and the directors of these processes.

In a later phase, we will combine this knowledge in a Learning Module. More about that later!
